Anti-Catholic bigotry rumors were spread against Alfred E. Smith in 1 928, by mailing misleading pictures to thousands of influential people. Catholics were unable to win a presidential nomination, by any major party, until John F. Kennedy received the Democratic nomination in 1960. This political rumor achieved a great deal of success. More recently, there have been many hate rumors spread during both presidential campaigns of our current President, Barack Obama.The rumors have developed into hate campaigns that, to this day, attempt to portray the President as disloyal to his country and not a true American. He was unsuccessful in college never earning his degree, and for several years he supported his family by tending to a farm his grandfather bought for him. In his spare time, Frost would read and write anything and everything. Discouraged by his unsuccessful life as a poet, he packed up his bags and moved to England. He continued writing and published his first two books of poetry, which would gain him the recognition in America he had been in search of (ExpLit 1). One of Frost's most famous poems is The Road Not Taken. This poem is about someone who comes to a fork in a path. One path is well beaten and treaded, while the other is less traveled and more difficult. Is the traveler happy with the decision he has made to take the road less traveled? Frost also probes one of the great mysteries of life: the ability to choose and the consequences of choosing (DAM 2). The Literary Caf also has similar ideas on the poem. After the traveler has chosen which path to follow, he still yearns to travel both paths, saying that he'll keep the first for another day. But, then he realizes that there is no return to the other path and that the final decision has been made. At the end of the poem the traveler sighs, but is he sighing because he is satisfied with his decision or because he may regret something about choosing the path that he did (LitCaf 1). Another famous poem by Robert Frost is Birches. It is a poem about the way the branches on a birch tree bend in the winter. Many critics think the poem is divided into three basic parts. An Interpretation of Frost's Birches thinks the three parts are the scientific explanation of the appearance of the birches, Frost's boyhood fantasy about their appearance, and his present day interpretation of their appearance. The first section is of the natural ways a branch would bend and crack because of weather. Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning after a rain. The second is more of how the branches would bend because of a little boy swinging on them. By riding them down over and over again until he took the stiffness out of them. Then in the third section Frost expresses how the tree reaches toward heaven and brings back memories of his childhood. And climb back branches up a snow-white trunk Toward heaven. In general usage a peer is an equal. The state of equality may be civil, economic, or social. Citizens accused of a crime are to be tried by a jury of their peers. The equality can also lie in the area of skill or ability. An extremely gifted craftsman or athlete can be said to have no peer. In French medieval literature, the twelve peers are twelve heroic knights like those of the Round Table in the Arthurian tales. In the Song of Roland, the twelve peers include Roland, Oliver, Bishop Turpin, and the traitor Ganelon. A pier is a vertical support. The structure that supports a bridge is a pier. Cathedrals are built with piers that support the tremendous weight of roof and towers. Piers are inanimate. They are incapable of feeling admiration so theres no point in trying to impress them. Auxin hormone is responsible for elongating the cells in the shoots. It triggers the pumping of hydrogen ions across the cell membrane and altering the way gene expression occurs within the cell in a way that influences plant growth. The experiment focuses on the influence of mechanical force in influencing the direction of the plant cell elongation. Plant cells transmit mechanical force among each other. The experiment was conducted after suspecting that mechanical force guides the alignment cortical microtubules (Wayne 2010). The experimented started by examining the non-elongated plant cells. The cells that lacked walls (protoplasts) were isolated from the tobacco plant, Nicotiana tabacum. The isolation was done through exposure of the plant cells to enzymes with the capability of destroying the cell wall. The result is a spherical plant cell. When the protoplasts were allowed to develop in the culture medium, they reformed their cell walls (Wymer & Cosgrove 1996). To study the effects of directional forces on plant cell elongations, the tobacco protoplasts were subjected to a unidirectional force that was produced by a centrifuge. The exposure of the force was made with previous knowledge that when the centrifugation is made in low speed, it does not distort the shape or integrity of the protoplast. The protoplasts were then immobilized ready for centrifugation. They were embedded on an agar medium that was supported by the mold. The embedded cells were spun for 15 minutes at 450 rpm in a centrifuge. After centrifugation, the already embedded cells were then cultured for 72 hours to allow the cell elongation to take place (wymer & Cosgrove 1996). After centrifugation was over, a microtubule antibody that was fluorescently tagged was added to the protoplasts. The cells were then
